Using Deuterium Fusion Reactions as a Neutral Beam Diagnostic

On the left we see a sketch of the experimental geometry with the compact detector mounted onto the so-called "neutralizer" portion of the beamline. The count rates for different particle energies deposited in the surface-barrier detector are put into energy bins and curve-fit to determine how many of each type have been detected. This is ultimately interpreted as the proportions of H+, H2+ and H3+ ions emitted by the source.
